If you have Medicare

CMS has a guide on getting care and prescriptions during a disaster or emergency. It covers:

  • Prescriptions: most can be transferred to another in-network pharmacy nearby. Call your Medicare drug plan first if you need to use an out-of-network pharmacy.
  • Doctor visits: with Original Medicare you can see any provider who accepts Medicare. With a Medicare Advantage plan, ask your plan about temporary network flexibility.
  • Ongoing and critical care: help is available for dialysis, cancer treatment, and for repairing or replacing medical equipment damaged or lost in the storm.

If you have Medicaid

Contact the state Medicaid agency or your managed care plan for guidance on keeping your coverage and services during the emergency.
