Emergencies can happen quickly. There should be a clear plan to respond efficiently and reduce confusion, especially if there are kupuna in the home.
Tips for Emergency Planning
- Create an evacuation plan with backup routes to exit your home
- Prepare a contact card with local and out-of-state family members
- If you can't stay at home, map out where you'll go and how to meet up
- Know where your important documents are and how to replace if lost
- Share plan and practice drills with family, neighbors, or caregivers
Kūpuna with health challenges or disabilities should plan for access and functional needs. This includes transportation for wheelchairs, extra oxygen tanks, or communication support for those with hearing or vision loss.
