Tips to Prepare for Power Outages
- Know how to use your appliances safely when the power goes out.
- Keep flashlights, batteries, and battery-powered radios where you can easily find them.
- Charge phone power banks and other portable chargers.
- If using a generator, keep it outdoors to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Keep your medical devices charged or have backup options that don’t rely on electricity
Make a Plan
Kūpuna with health conditions should create a plan for how to manage their care without electricity. Emergency plans may include refrigeration for insulin or keeping oxygen machines powered.
